The end of 2012 presented me with the biggest challenge I have had to face in my life so far. My daughter was hospitalized for almost 3 weeks after a downward spiral due to depression, anxiety and the wrong medication that could have ended her life. It was a heartbreaking event which put my world into a complete tailspin and I found myself struggling to cope and find answers to questions that don’t have clear-cut answers.
2013 has become a new year with a new outlook for me on life. One thing became apparent…. I needed to embark on the biggest do-it-yourself project of my life…. to survive my life and to find peace through inspirations…and thankfulness.
“There are years that ask questions and years that answer .” Zora Neale Hurston
I have turned to a variety different resources, many I have found on the internet. One site that proved helpful was started by Glen Close: Bring Change 2 Mind . It can also be liked on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/BringChange2Mind. It gives support to families and is an effort to end the stigma associated with mental illness.
A huge part of my daily life has become sharing this book with my daughter :
There is a reading for each day the gives one food for thought. At the end of each day you are supposed to journal about something you are thankful for ….even if it is that the day is over.
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
